What is the Asiatic Affairs Writers’ Group?

The Writers’ Group is Asiatic Affairs’ own internal group aimed at supporting all writers interested in contributing to the society’s Publication. In addition to joining our Writers’ Group on WhatsApp, facilitated by the Publications team, there will also be meetings and workshops held throughout the year to help build a supportive community amongst people like you interested in writing and publishing about current affairs in Asia.

The Writer’s Group members will produce one article per month in line with a monthly theme of the group’s choice.

What do I gain from joining the Writers’ Group?

The Writers’ Group is a simple and effective way of connecting with other fellow writers and current affairs enthusiasts. Share your insights and experiences of writing and publishing about current affairs, and learn what drives your peers to do the same!

In addition to receiving on demand support from the Publications Team via the WhatsApp group, there will be meetings and workshops held throughout the year to help you further your written communication and journalistic skills.

Our main objectives:

  • Receive on demand support from the Publications Team with your next article

  • Participate in group brainstorming sessions for new article ideas

  • Attend workshops led by journalists and professionals in the media industry to gain insight into reporting on international affairs

How can I join the Writers’ Group?

You must be a member of Asiatic Affairs (Standard) to become a member of the Asiatic Affairs Writers’ Group. Applications are on a rolling basis; please fill out this Google Form if you are interested in joining the Asiatic Affairs Writer’s Group. We will review your application and let you know next steps if you are successful.

Writers' Group updates and announcements will be communicated on our various social media platforms and monthly newsletter. Attendance at our workshops and meetings are non-obligatory and you are able to opt out of the group at any point. We would miss you though!

What if I do not want to write regularly?

No problem! Our Publications team also accepts ad-hoc submissions for those who would like to produce one-off submissions or prefer the flexibility of irregular articles. If you would like to write an article for us, please fill out this form here and our Publications team will get back to you.

All activities are led and facilitated by the Publications Team. For more information, please contact uclasiaticaffairs@gmail.com
